So Fucking What?

Trump revealed highly classified information to Russian foreign minister and ambassador

So fucking what?

The President of the United States of America is the head of the executive branch of the United States Government, and the Constitution vests with the President sole executive power over the United States.

The executive branch sits co-equal to the legislative branch, vested in Congress–comprised of the House of Representatives and the Senate, which has sole legislative power: the power to make law. The executive branch also sits co-equal to the judicial branch, of which the Supreme Court of the United States is the highest in a series of courts established by Congress.

What this means is that the President, who also sits as the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of the United States, is, in a very real sense, the final arbiter of the classification of secret information, as well as the final arbiter of who has access and who does not have access–within a few reasonable limits. (For example, a President cannot classify a sex scandal as a secret.) Further, as President–that is, as the person that our Constitutional vests all executive power by Article II–no executive branch employee can refuse a lawful request by the President to gain access and to strategically disseminate classified information as he sees fit in the execution of his office.

It is by this logic, by the way, that I asserted the claims against Hillary Clinton, as a member of the executive branch (in her role as Secretary of State) could not be prosecuted for her role in “e-mail gate” or whatever the fuck people were calling it. The only person who could hold Hillary Clinton accountable for the supposed leaks of classified information through her personal server was President Obama. And I note this because there is a case where Clinton’s actions were reasonable: for example, suppose President Obama, in his role as chief executive and as the commander-in-chief decided to leak false information to the Russians. How better to do this than through a server run by Hillary Clinton?

While I’m not suggesting this is what happened, it is a reason why only President Obama could hold Secretary of State Clinton to account for her actions. Because suppose the President did not enjoy supreme executive authority. Then an FBI investigation could uncover such a false flag operation–and blow years of preparation.

The same logic applies to President Trump. To deny President Trump his power under the Constitution as the chef executive and commander-in-chief is to force a constitutional crisis. Which is why we must accord President Trump every courtesy that we accorded President Obama.

Elections have consequences.

Wining about it now seems … extremely hypocritical.
