I find stuff like this funny.
Many on the Left have gone absolutely insane over President Trump’s tweet about how the Obama Administration tapped his phones at the Trump Tower.
But no-one has really stopped to think why Trump made the tweet. After all, according to the Left, President Trump is an insane crazy idiot who stumbled into the Presidency because the vast majority of Americans are stupid morons. So there can be no reason–outside of general bat-shit insanity–that Trump would make such an unfounded accusation.
But notice a few things that took place after the tweet.
First the “Trump has a Russian connection” story has taken a severe turn.
That’s because the Democratic Party now has a problem: if they press the “Trump/Russia” connection, then any “proof” they offer must come with evidence gathered via signal intelligence: wire taps, e-mail intercepts and the like. This is not just my theorizing, by the way: look at what the New York Times had to say about the Trump/Russia connection prior to President Trump’s tweet:
The New York Times reported that law enforcement and intelligence agencies intercepted calls and phone records showing Donald Trump’s presidential campaign aides, as well as other associates, having repeated contact with senior Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election.
And any such intercepted calls (i.e., “wire taps”) and phone records would have required a federal warrant–undoubtedly issued by someone in the Obama Administration.
Also notice that President Obama, originally winding up an organization to stand against Trump at every turn, has quietly shifted course–going from a potent political advisory to Trump into someone publicizing his NCAA bracket and surfing with Richard Branson.
Well, again, it goes back to the “Trump/Russia” connection and President Trump’s tweet. If it turns out that the Obama Administration did indeed bug various Trump advisors during the election, which seems possible given the sizable amount of reporting prior to Trump’s tweet indicating evidence of a connection–then it’s possible Trump is using it to help Obama into a traditional post-Presidency retirement roll. After all, at this point what President Obama has for him is his legacy.
Thanks to “insane Trump’s unfounded and crazy tweet”, the Trump/Russia story has substantially changed.
And now Democrats are in the position of trying to push the Trump/Russia connection without claiming there was any evidence–putting the Democrats in a lose/lose position. Either they claim evidence (and expose themselves to the possibility the evidence was illegally gathered), or they push the story claiming that it is, in essence, made up of whole cloth.
Which seems the path Democrats are taking.
President Trump, of course, has absolutely nothing to lose. The press has already vilified Trump as an idiot; one more insane tweet doesn’t matter. So if it turns out that in fact, the Obama Administration did bug the Trump Tower, a very reasonable play for Trump would be to make a back door deal with a handful of former Obama Administration officials: you go public with your “evidence” and you open yourself to criminal charges which makes the Watergate break-in look like a summer picnic.
The Democrats are taken down a notch, Obama now spends his time windsurfing, and Trump loses very little.
I suspect the biggest thing people need to learn about Trump is that he is indeed crazy. Crazy like a fox.
Because at the very least we now have Democrats pushing a story that, admittedly, has no evidence to back it. Meaning we now have Democrats effectively pushing what is starting to look like a bat-shit crazy conspiracy theory.
